Philadelphia City Council adopted a resolution commemorating the 60th anniversary of the March 7, 1965, civil rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, known as “Bloody Sunday.” The resolution remembers the demonstrators who were attacked while protesting the denial of voting rights to African Americans and reaffirms the importance of civil rights, voting rights, and racial justice.
