Honoring and commending the accomplishments of Lurline Jones as the Girls Basketball Coach for University City High School. Coach Jones led her team to the 1999-2000 Public League Championship. In 1998, she was nominated and elected COACH OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, University City High is in an urban area, many of her student/players are victims of an environment that could lead them in the wrong direction. Coach Jones instills in them that if they use the discipline learned in playing sports they can achieve everything they want.

WHEREAS, Under Coach Jones University City High has been in every play-off game since 1978.

WHEREAS, Under Coach Jones guidance University City High has produced 5 High School All Americans, and has sent over 115 girls to college from their basketball program.

WHEREAS, Coach Jones team over the years has won 502 games, losing 147.

WHEREAS, Coach Jones is the co-founder of a non-profit organization that sponsors AAU teams.

WHEREAS, In 1997, she was appointed the Regional Director for the Keystone Games in the Philadelphia area.

WHEREAS, The Nationally Rank teams have appeared in 16 City championship games - winning 12 championship games. Won triple titles twice (consecutive titles three years in a row) 1978, '79, '80 also in 1992, '93, '94 and '95.

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Coach Jones, University City High girls basketball team has the best record in Philadelphia; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend Coach Lurline Jones for over sixteen years of excellence and leadership in coaching the University City Girls Basketball team.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Lurline Jones as evidence of the respect and sincere regard of this legislative body for her efforts and determination.
