WHEREAS, Strawberry Mansion has been high school since 1981; and
WHEREAS, This is the first time that Strawberry Mansion Boys Basketball Team had been in public league final; and
WHEREAS, In the final, Strawberry Mansion faced North Philadelphia rival Simon Gratz; and
WHEREAS, Strawberry Mansion boys basketball team had several players named to the All Public League Boys Basketball Team;
WHEREAS, The number one vote getter on the Coaches' All Public League team, Mr. Omar Tomas scored 22 points, 13 rebounds and two steals, in Strawberry Mansion High School Knights' victory 60 to 49 over Simon Gratz;
WHEREAS, The entire team was the pride and joy of North Philadelphia's Strawberry Mansion neighborhood;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Strawberry Mansion Boys Basketball Team in winning the Public League Boys Basketball Championship.
RESOLVED, FURTHER, That and Engrossed Copy of this Resolution be Presented to Coach Gerard Hendricks as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
