O'NeillCMCouncilmember MillerWHEREAS, After 23 years as head trainer of the Philadelphia Eagles, Otho Davis served the Eagles in the newly created position of Trainer Emeritus, a capacity which involved him in special research projects regarding the collection and evaluation of data on both college and pro levels; and
WHEREAS, Otho Davis earned a B.S. degree in Physical Education from Lamar University in 1957 and an M.A. degree in 1964 from Kent State, where he was head trainer from 1957 to 1964; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Eagles organization in 1973, Otho Davis served as the head trainer at Duke University in 1965, and as the associate trainer with the Baltimore Colts from 1971 to 1972; and
WHEREAS, Otho Davis was one of the most accomplished and respected men in his field, as he was a five-time recipient of the National Athletic Trainers' Association's "Professional Trainer of the Year" Award. He also is a member of the Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame, the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame's Philadelphia Chapter and the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, In 1982, he received the Distinguished Service Award for Sports Medicine from the American Orthopedics Society for Sports Medicine. From 1971 to 1989, Otho Davis was the Executive Director of the NATA, an organization whose national headquarters office building in Dallas is named in his honor. he also served as the chapter President of the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his prosperous career with the Philadelphia Eagles, Otho Davis had remained committed to both the Philadelphia Eagles organization and the Eagles fans in Philadelphia to ensure both a healthy and quality football team; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor the remarkable life and achievements of Eagles Trainer Emeritus, Otho Davis.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Otho Davis and to the Philadelphia Eagles organization as evidence of the sincere gratitude for the time and effort that Otho Davis gave to the City of Philadelphia.
