Honoring and congratulating the Philadelphia Board of Education, the School District of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers, the Commonwealth Association of School Administrators, and the Philadelphia Home and School Association on forming a unique partnership to raise funds for the School District of Philadelphia through the PASSBOOK Fund-Raising Coupon Book Project.

WHEREAS, A new Philadelphia-based organization called People Always Support Schools (PASS) is producing a family-oriented coupon book to be sold throughout the Philadelphia Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, PASS discount coupon books will be sold by the Home and School Council, teachers, parents, administrators, local businesses, religious organizations, unions and many others; and

WHEREAS, PASS offers an avenue for community support and direct involvement in providing resources to children and will provide a unique opportunity for the city to show local initiative on behalf of the schools; and

WHEREAS, This grassroots fund-raising effort will provide much-needed funds for extra curricular programs such as music, sports, theater, computer education, and art; and

WHEREAS, This totally original concept has had a resoundingly positive response and created an unprecedented coalition of organizational support; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and congratulate the Philadelphia Board of Education, the School District of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers, the Commonwealth Association of School Administrators, and the Philadelphia Home and School Association on forming a unique partnership to raise funds for the School District of Philadelphia through the PASSBOOK Fund-Raising Coupon Book Project.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Gloria Levin Ross, as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
