Full Bill

WHEREAS

,

The much admired principal of the Benjamin Franklin Elementary School, Gregory Shannon, was leaving the building on a fall day in late September; and

WHEREAS

,

A smell of smoke that permeated the air, prompted Mr. Shannon to investigate the perimeter of the school and alerted him to a possible emergency; and

WHEREAS

,

Meanwhile, student of the Franklin Elementary School, known to Mr. Shannon, whose home was directly across the street from the school, summoned Mr. Shannon for help and assistance; and

WHEREAS

,

Mr. Shannon realized that the house was on fire endangering the youngster, hastened into the home and subsequently discovered three siblings whom he delivered to safety with calm poise; and

WHEREAS

,

Assuring that no one was hurt, Mr. Shannon notified the Fire Department and received the sincere appreciation of a very grateful mother; and

WHEREAS

,

Gregory Shannon demonstrated in a meaningfully unselfish way, his commitment, his dedication and his love for children and their well-being; and

WHEREAS

,

This veteran science teacher, coordinator of substance abuse programs and newly-minted principal who has taken the school into the neighborhood and the community, distinguished himself as both educator and hero; now therefore

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA

,

Recognize and salute Gregory G. Shannon on his quick thinking and rapid response in the face of a dire emergency.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Gregory G. Shannon as a expression of the deep gratitude and admiration of this legislative body.
