Full Bill

WHEREAS, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), Philadelphia Chapter represents over 1200 anchors, reporters, editors, and writers including 40 employees of KYW News Radio; and

WHEREAS, AFTRA has represented the employees of KYW since its inception as an all news station in 1965; and

WHEREAS, The 40 KYW News Radio employees have been negotiating since 1999 and have been working under the conditions of their previous contract since October of 1999; and

WHEREAS, AFTRA KYW News Radio employees wish to maintain the current level of compensation in the AFTRA contract; and

WHEREAS, KYW News employees represented by AFTRA want to be able to participate in the stations involvement in the Internet as it represents the future of broadcasting; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council support AFTRA and the KYW News Radio employees in their efforts to negotiate a fair contract; and

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be forwarded to representatives of the AFTRA Philadelphia Chapter.
