Full Bill

WHEREAS, “Save Your Vision Month,” is a national event sponsored annually in March by the American Optometric Association; and

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania College of Optometry is a major sponsor of “Save Your Vision Month” in the Delaware Valley; and

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania College of Optometry is celebrating: “Save Your Vision Month” with a vision health public awareness campaign with the theme “On the Lookout: Your Profession and Pastimes May Be Damaging to Your Eyes”; and

WHEREAS, The official 2001 “Save Your Vision” campaign kickoff in City Council will launch a series of free vision screenings at Day Care Centers, Regional Library Branches, Senior Citizen Centers and residential complexes; and

WHEREAS, The College of Optometry hopes that the public awareness campaign will encourage families and employers to develop a greater understanding of the important role vision plays in both the workplace and home; and

WHEREAS, Vision withstands varying degrees of stress and is placed at risk by certain daily activities both in the home and the workplace; and

WHEREAS, These stressors and hazards can be identified and minimized through education and regular eye screenings and vision care services; and

WHEREAS, Resources are available for patients through the services of the Eye Institute of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry; and

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania College of Optometry is also participating in Vision USA, a national effort to provide free eye examinations for working persons with no health insurance who have not had an eye examination in the last twelve months; now therefore

RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA declare and celebrate March as “Save Your Vision Month” and encourage and support “On the Lookout: Your Profession and Pastimes May Be Damaging Your Eyes.”

RESOLVED FURTHER, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of The Pennsylvania College of Optometry, sincere expression of the Council’s gratitude, appreciation and commendation for sponsoring and organizing free vision screenings throughout Philadelphia during “Save Your Vision Month.”
