Full Bill

WHEREAS, For the past 22 years, Edward Hushen has held progressively more responsible positions within the Rite Aid Corporation, the country’s third largest retail drugstore chain; and

WHEREAS, Now serving as the Regional Vice President, Mr. Hushen manages the company’s 160 stores and 2,500 employees that comprise the Philadelphia metropolitan area market and is also responsible for real estate, construction, employment, customer service, product selection and community relations; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hushen has earned awards for his management skills, store production and market sales volume throughout his employment and under his leadership, the Philadelphia market is ranked as Rite Aid’s highest volume market on the East Coast. Most recently, he was named the top regional Vice President in the Atlantic Region for the year 2000; and

WHEREAS, Edward began his career with Rite Aid as the manager of the

12th &

Market Street store, currently the site of the Marriott Hotel and three years later was tapped to be the Front End Supervisor of 16 stores in Rochester, New York and then assisted the corporation in expanding its operations into the southern states. Through a series of promotions, he later returned to Philadelphia as Division Manager; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hushen demonstrates his understanding of the communities where Rite Aid stores are located through his active involvement in community affairs such as sponsorship of important neighborhood festivals, awards programs, picnics, health and job fairs, along with hosting the Rite Aid Corporation’s signature Mother’s Day Mammogram Program national kick-off events; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hushen has contributed to the Philadelphia community through his sponsorship of the NAACP’s ACT-So youth achievement program and has contributed to Philadelphia Safe and Sound Program. He has also utilized local minority contractors to build the last five Rite Aid stores constructed in the area; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend Mr. Edward Hushen for his professional accomplishments and civic commitment to the Philadelphia Community. He truly is a positive role model for our youth to follow.
