WHEREAS, Since 1981, Jane G. Pepper has been the popular and successful President of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, whose programs and activities have seen tremendous growth under her leadership. More than eight thousand members enjoy a variety of benefits including the award-winning

Green Scene

Magazine, a fourteen thousand-volume horticultural library, garden tours, lectures, workshops and awards programs. In addition, the Society's acclaimed neighborhood and public landscape greening program, Philadelphia Green, has grown extensively during the past decade, and it is a project that carries out greening projects with organized community groups on blocks in low and moderate income neighborhoods and revitalizes downtown areas and gateway open spaces in partnership with public and private organizations. Today, Philadelphia Green is the nation's largest such program and serves as a model for similar programs in the United States; and

WHEREAS, As Show Manager of the Philadelphia Flower Show, Jane G. Pepper's leadership has helped achieve, for the Show, both national and international stature and it has blossomed into the leading Show of its kind in the nation that hosts mor than three thousand visitors from many corners of the nation and overseas; and

WHEREAS, As Show Manager, Jane G. Pepper continues to attract some of the world's finest horticultural talent to participate in the annual event, including exhibitors from Africa, Germany, Japan, England, France, Holland, Italy, and Belgium; and

WHEREAS, The spectacular gardens created by local nurseries and florists, exhibitors from around the world with their splendid offerings of sculpted gardens and floral artistry have become the hallmark of the Philadelphia Flower Show. With its global recognition, the show is the nation's most celebrated event for landscape and flora design ideas. now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes Jane G. Pepper for her twenty years of excellent and inspired leadership as President of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, and as Show Manager of the world-famous, Philadelphia Flower Show.

RESOLVED FURTHER, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Jane G. Pepper as evidence of the sincere admiration of this legislative body.
