Full Bill

WHEREAS, Andrew N. Farnese, Esquire has achieved more than any one person could ever hope. As a brilliant scholar and lawyer, civic leader and public official, bank owner and school board president, he has held himself to the highest ideals and standards throughout his incredible sixty year career in public service; and

WHEREAS, Andrew N. Farnese, Esquire arrived in this country as a little boy unable to speak the language of his new country. Yet he persevered, dedicated and committed to achieving the American dream; and

WHEREAS, A graduate of South Philadelphia High School and Temple University, Andrew Farnese has been a leader and champion of public education. As the first Italian-American to hold the post of President of the School Board of Philadelphia, he visited every school in the City in an effort to get to know the students and the individual needs of the schools; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Farnese has always been an outspoken advocate for our schoolchildren and their accomplishments. He has transformed his words into action as a benefactor to many students. He has established numerous scholarships at schools throughout the Philadelphia area, asking only that students hold themselves to the same high ideals and standards that are his trademark; and

WHEREAS, No honor, praise or recognition can ever adequately cover the many facets of Andrew Farnese's life and success. He is a shining example and model of the American Dream realized - an "old world" gentleman with a 21st century vision for Philadelphia's school children; therefore now

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend Andrew N. Farnese, Esquire for his outstanding achievements in education in Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Andrew N. Farnese, Esquire as further evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
