WHEREAS, Michael W. Schantz has provided the leadership to focus and develop the collections, inter-museum loans, scholarly publications, and outstanding exhibitions and public programs; and

WHEREAS, Under the direction of Michael W. Schatz, Woodmere Art Museum achieved accreditation by the American Association of Museums; and

WHEREAS, Michael W. Schantz has worked with the Board of Trustees to undertake and complete two major renovations tot he Museum and plan a third building addition designed by Venturi Scott Brown & Associates; and

WHEREAS, Michael W. Schantz wrote and published a comprehensive and scholarly catalogue of Woodmere Art Museum's permanent collection; and

WHEREAS, Michael W. Schantz has seen the annual budget increase from $108,000 to $1.2 million during his tenure; and

WHEREAS, Woodmere Art Museum's endowment has grown to over $8 million under the leadership of Michael W. Schantz, and net assets total over $14 million; and

WHEREAS, The significant contributions of Michael W. Schantz during his 20 year tenure as Director has brought national recognition to Woodmere Art Museum, and Woodmere Art Museum helps to protect Philadelphia's, and ultimately Pennsylvania's natural and cultural heritage; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes and appreciates Michael W. Schantz upon celebrating his 20th Anniversary as Director of the Woodmere Art Museum.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Michael W. Schantz as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
