The Council of the City of Philadelphia is pleased and proud to join in tribute to Mr. Les Yost for his years of outstanding service as President of the Philadelphia Fire Fighters' Union.
WHEREAS, Mr. Yost was born in 1940 in Philadelphia, and he is a Philadelphian through and through, living in our City, raising his family here and serving with distinction in the Fire Department for forty-one years; and
WHEREAS, Les Yost began his illustrious career in the Fire Department in October, 1959, and was elected as Recording Secretary of the Philadelphia Fire Fighters' Union Local 22 in 1981. From 1983 through 1987 he served as Vice President, where he earned the respect of his colleagues and the confidence of the firefighters, who hold him in highest esteem; and
WHEREAS, In 1987, Mr. Yost was elected President, and again, he served with distinction through 1999, when he was named Chairman of the Trustees. In all those years, he was a strong and sure advocate for all Fire Department personnel, and he worked constantly with the Administration and elected officials to insure the most just treatment for the men and women he was sworn to serve; and
WHEREAS, Today, Mr. Yost is back doing what he loves. He is an active and enthusiastic member of Ladder 1, and he remains dedicated to the highest standards and deepest traditions of his chosen profession; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend Mr. Les Yost, and thank him for his years of commitment to his Department, his Union and the citizens of this City.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Les Yost as evidence of the deep respect and sincere admiration of this legislative body.
