Full Bill

WHEREAS, The mission of the Selective Service System is to provide manpower to the Department of Defense for military service in the event of a national emergency declared by the Congress or the President; implement an Alternative Service Program for registrants classified as conscientious objectors; and, maintain a program to conscript health care personnel when directed; and

WHEREAS, For the past 20 years, volunteers from the Philadelphia Office of the Selective Service System have been an integral part of our national defense, as trained and ready stand-by board members, fulfilling the needs of the President and Congress for preparedness in the event of a national emergency; and

WHEREAS, The following fifteen members of the Philadelphia Office of the Selective

Service System have served their country for the past 20 years: From Local Board 132, Siegfried Honig; from Local Board 135,

Janet M. Aithouse, Walter K. Debes, James M. McCarty, Maryann T. Simon; from Local Board 136, Dorothea Wilson, Ahmad H. Smith, Dr. John J. Howe; from Local Board 138, Vivian E. Mack; from Local Board 139, Leona Robinson; from Local Board 140, Richard T. Bums; from Local Board 142, David M. Kee, Sr.; from Local Board 143, Doris E. Grazier, Gloria Devero; and, from Local Board 146, Vincent A. Dicioccio; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors the retiring members of the Philadelphia Office of the Selective Service System for their 20 years of service to America in ensuring our national defense.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the retiring members of the Philadelphia Office of the Selective Service System as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
