Full Bill

Whereas, Luisto Figueroa-Roig was born in Philadelphia in 1989; and

Whereas, At the age of 4 he began singing at schools and other special activities in the community; and

Whereas, He has received many awards and honors including the Cecilia Cruz Award of the NJN Hispanic Youth Showcase 2000 Competition; and

Whereas, He is a talented student at (GAMP) Girard Academic Music Program; and

Whereas, He has performed with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, along with the Temple Childrer 'S Choir at the Oregon Bach Festival; and

Whereas, Luisto has recorded two CD's in which he sang soprano with the Temple University Children's Concert and Chamber Choir; and

Whereas, In 2001 he performed with Latin music celebrities like Johnny Albino, Joe Cuba and Graciela at the International Latin Music Hall of Fame; and

Whereas, Luisto was chosen to perform on the internationally known evening show “Sabado Gigante”; and

Whereas, Since 2001 Luisto has been part of a post holiday concert in Puerto Rico with stars like Tony Croatto, Josie LaTorre, Irvin Garcia, Silverio Perez, and Victoria Zanabria; and

Whereas, Luisto is presently singing contemporary Latin and bilingual salsa and his the lead vocalist of his own 11 piece salsa band; and

Whereas, Luisto's first CD entitled “La Diferencia” (The Difference) was released in August of 2002; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, That we honor Luisto Figueroa-Roig on making it to the Star Search finals on May 14, 2003; and

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Luisto Figueroa-Roig as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
