Full Bill

WHEREAS, On May 17, 2003, volunteers from the Philadelphia Housing Authority, Tenant Support Services, Inc. (TSSI) and Philadelphia residents from all parts of the City, will be stationed in over fifty Philadelphia neighborhoods for Clean Sweep 2003; and

WHEREAS, Clean Sweep volunteers have, in years past, picked up tons of trash in a single day, making Philadelphia neighborhoods cleaner, brighter and safer for everyone. These volunteers clean streets and sidewalks, clear vacant lots, paint over graffiti and pick up trash; and

WHEREAS, Ten thousand volunteers are expected to take part in this annual tradition. Clean Sweep is for everyone - PHA and TSSI employees, public housing residents and residents of surrounding communities, vendors and corporate sponsors; and

WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Philadelphia Housing Authority Executive Director Carl R. Greene, Clean Sweep has become a family event that ensures cleaner and safer neighborhoods. The success of the City of Philadelphia, which has implemented many initiatives to address the tattered condition of many of its communities in an effort to secure the very fabric of the City's future, is largely attributed to the model exemplified by the Philadelphia Housing Authority's Clean Sweep Program; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby declare May 17, 2003 as Philadelphia Housing Authority Community Partnership Health and Safety Day.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Philadelphia Housing Authority Executive Director Carl R. Greene, as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
