Full Bill

WHEREAS, Lonnie Young Recreation Center is in the heart of the 201st Legislative District formerly represented by the late State Representative David P. Richardson, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, David P. Richardson, Jr. was an outstanding leader, elected official and community activist; and

WHEREAS, David P. Richardson, Jr. resided in the community in which he served and spent his early youth at the Lonnie Young Recreation Center; and

WHEREAS, David P. Richardson, Jr. advocated for an improved Lonnie Young Recreation Center; and

WHEREAS, His commitment and contribution to the community at large and specifically the African American community is indelibly etched in hearts and minds; and

WHEREAS, The residents of the community wish to honor the memory of David P. Ricahrdson, Jr. with a fitting tribute; now, therefore

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA HEREBY ORDAINS:

SECTION 1. The gymnasium of the Lonnie Young Recreation Center at 1100 East Chelten avenue is hereby named and designated the "David P. Richardson, Jr. Memorial Gymnasium."
