Full Bill

WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson has brought to his various positions in the public and private sectors a proud academic and organizational background. He graduated from Morehouse College and earned his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and followed that up with a master's degree in public health. He completed his residency at the Children's Hospital in our City and then served as medical director for the division of Family Health Services in New York City; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Johnson, who lived in Philadelphia from childhood through his teen years, returned to our City as an assistant professor of pediatrics at Temple University School of Medicine, and also practiced pediatrics at Temple University Children's Medical Center. At the time of his nomination for Secretary of Health for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, he was also medical director of Philadelphia Safe & Sound; and

WHEREAS, Having been nominated as Secretary by Governor Edward G. Rendell, Dr. Johnson became the primary public health advocate and spokesman for Pennsylvania; and the senior advisor to the Governor on all health matters. He is the fourth African American to hold this high position, and the youngest person ever to be Secretary of Health for this Commonwealth. He serves with pride and distinction, and he is held in high esteem by all who know him; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor Calvin B. Johnson, M.D., Secretary of Health for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Johnson as evidence of the sincere admiration and deep respect of this legislative body.
