Recognizing October 27, 2003 through November 25, 2003 as the Month of Ramadan.

WHEREAS, There are approximately 5,000,000 Muslims living in the United States; and

WHEREAS, There are over 80,000 Muslims in the Greater Philadelphia Area; and

WHEREAS, This is the month of Ramadan, a time of peace and brotherhood; and

WHEREAS, Ramadan commemorates the revelation of the Holy Quran; and

WHEREAS, Ramadan will be marked by fasting, prayer and meditation by the more then 1,000,000,000 Muslims throughout the world; and

WHEREAS, Ramadan encourages the Muslim Community to develop compassion and charity towards all persons; now therefore

RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we recognize this as Ramadan, 1423 A.H.; and

FURTHER RESOLVED, That we honor the Muslim community in Philadelphia; and

RESOLVED FURTHER, That we extend to all those who are observing this holiest of times the respect and admiration of this legislative body.
