Full Bill

WHEREAS

,

Lois Marie Wells-Schmidt began her term of employment with the City of Philadelphia on February 15, 1954 after service with the New England Bell Telephone and Pennsylvania Bell Telephone Companies; and

WHEREAS

,

She was one of the first female City Hall operators and was soon promoted to various positions within the Communications Department; and

WHEREAS

,

After taking a test and placing first on the list, she was appointed to the position of Telephone Services manager for the Communications Division of Public Property; and

WHEREAS

,

Ms. Schmidt has been assigned to work on a myriad of projects for all sixty departments, boards, agencies and divisions within the City's network, as well as, the communications system for the Army/Navy games, Boy Scouts Jamborees, Hero Scholarship Show, and many other festivals and special events; and

WHEREAS

,

She has been a diligent and loyal employee, providing continuous service and demonstrating genuine concern for the citizens of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS

,

Ms. Schmidt is also a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and still finds time to participate on many board and agencies; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA

,

That we hereby honor and commend Lois Marie Wells-Schmidt on the occasion of her retirement from the City of Philadelphia; and

FURTHER RESOLVED

,

That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Lois Marie Wells-Schmidt as a symbol of this legislative body's gratitude for nearly fifty years of outstanding dedicated service to the City of Philadelphia.
