Full Bill

WHEREAS, Since its founding on February 11, 1954, the parishioners and clergy of Stella Maris Parish have remained faithful to their baptismal vows by committing themselves to the guiding Christian principles of faith, hope and charity. The perseverance of Stella Maris Parish is evidenced by the continued growth of the parish, which now serves more than 3,200 families and almost 9,000 parishioners; and

WHEREAS, Stella Maris Church and its parishioners have been exemplars of Christian service by involving youth and adults in the service of God and teaching by example. Programs include a volunteer choir, numerous outreach programs, an active senior citizens group, support for the Saint Vincent DePaul Society and children’s programs. Stella Maris serves as a model for outreach and volunteerism and the parish is a beacon of life and light throughout the community; and

WHEREAS, The yearlong anniversary celebration began on February 11, 2003 and has centered around special monthly Masses honoring all members of the parish. The parish has fulfilled a piece of its mission by worshipping God in spirit and truth through prayer and through the celebration of the Eucharist; and

WHEREAS, The people and clergy of Stella Maris remain committed to their mission to help others, and to live and act in God’s presence. As we prepare to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century, churches like Stella Maris will be essential in our efforts to unite families and communities, and strengthen our cities; now therefore

Resolved, by the Council of the City of Philadelphia, That we hereby honor all the members of Stella Maris Parish on the great occasion of their fiftieth anniversary of service to God and humanity.

Further Resolved, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Right Reverend James F. Connelly as evidence of the congratulations, best wishes, sincere respect and deep admiration of this legislative body.
