Full Bill

WHEREAS, The National Coalition of African American Organizations (N.C.A.A.O.) is a cooperative effort amongst civic organizations, businesses, and the religious community to provide information and resources to promote the growth and prosperity of urban America; and

WHEREAS, One of the main goals of the N.C.A.A.O is to invest, and encourage the nation to increase its commitment and investment in our youth; and

WHEREAS, The Generation Next Project is an initiative that the N.C.A.A.O. is using to ensure that the youth are indeed getting the services they deserve; and

WHEREAS, The campaign is designed to support and encourage a molding of minds, a refining of attitudes, and an elevation of activism within the young; and

WHEREAS, Generation Next is an umbrella organization of high school age youth along with delegates from the faith based community and college students; and

WHEREAS, Since the program has started activities include the establishment of a book scholarship fund, a mentoring program, voter education and registration, health and wellness education and an economic awareness campaign; and

WHEREAS, The N.C.A.A.O. is generating an immense amount of energy and excitement surrounding activities and events they have planned for the Generation Next project during the last weekend of March; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby declare the final weekend in March, March 26 through March 28, as Generation Next Weekend.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the National Coalition of African American Organizations for their hard work and efforts to improve the lives of young people through the Generation Next project, as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
