Recognizing and honoring the Central High School Lady Lancers on winning the Philadelphia Public League Title Championship.

WHEREAS, Central High School Lady Lancers beat a tough University City Lady Jaguars by a score of seventy-three to sixty five to win the championship title; and

WHEREAS, Central High School Girl’s Varsity Basketball has won consecutive Public League Championships in the years 2002, 2003, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Due to an entrance into the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the 2003 — 2004 championship is also the PIAA District’s 12th

Championship; and

WHEREAS, The Central High School Lancers have won 48 straight public league basketball games over the past three years and that the record for the year 2004 was twenty-four wins and three losses; and

WHEREAS, The senior members of the team have a career record of ninety-two wins and eighteen losses; and

WHEREAS, Ashley Edwards with nineteen points and nine rebounds was named the game’s MVP and Ashley Morris was the floor leader at guard, scoring twenty-one points with a supporting cast of fellow seniors Sharae Middlebrook and Megan Ellis; and

WHEREAS, The four senior members of the team will be attending colleges and universities and have been All Public at some point during their four years at Central; and

WHEREAS, It is a credit to these young ladies who have maintained a high level of academic achievement, a credit to Coach Frank Greco who has coached the team for five years and to the teachers and leadership of Central Girl’s High School for the tremendous accomplishment.

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Central High School Girl’s Varsity Basketball Team is honored for winning the 2004 Public League Championship.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of the resolution is presented to members of the championship team, to the coach and leadership of Girl’s Central High School as an expression of recognition, gratitude and sincere appreciation of this legislative body.
