WHEREAS, The Employees of the Philadelphia Prison System provide for the safety, security and well-being of over 7,500 inmates, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; and
WHEREAS, These 2000 employees, be they Correctional Officers, Social Workers, Maintenance, Clerical or Administrative Personnel, contribute to the safety of our neighborhoods, preserve the dignity of those who are incarcerated and help the criminal justice system function smoothly; and
WHEREAS, The Correctional Employees create the environment and provide the skills, guidance and opportunities that help people change their lives; and
WHEREAS, The Correctional Staff and Administrators are taking a leadership role in creating a coordinated system of support for inmates upon their release to the community; and
WHEREAS, The Men and Women who work in the Philadelphia Prison System carry out their responsibilities with professionalism, fairness and concern for the welfare of all; now therefore
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Proclaims the week of May 3 to May 7, 2004 to be Correctional Employee Week in the City of Philadelphia; and
FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Philadelphia Prison System is recognized and honored for its professional contributions and services to the City and that all citizens are urged to honor and recognize Correctional Employee Week; and
RESOLVED FURTHER, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to a representative of The Philadelphia Prison System as evidence of the sincere respect and sentiments of this legislative body.
