Full Bill

WHEREAS, Mario Isgro opened Isgro Pasticceria, located at 1009 Christian Street, in 1904, creating one of the most cherished and beloved shops in Philadelphia's Italian Market; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Isgro studied culinary arts in Vienna and Messina before immigrating to Philadelphia over 100 years ago and passed his cherished recipes to his family; and

WHEREAS, Augustine Isgro, Mario's grandson, is still deeply rooted in his family's traditions, never deviating from the original time tested formulas and creating many innovative and scrumptious works of art himself; and

WHEREAS, Augustine continues his grandfather's traditions by teaching his sons the culinary pastry arts; and

WHEREAS, The Isgros are world renowned for their award winning cannoli, pastries, cakes and cookies, winning the “Best of Philly” Award from

Philadelphia Magazine

in 2001 and 2002, and many consider an Isgro's wedding cake a work of art; and

WHEREAS, The Isgro family will celebrate 100 years of magnificent baking on May 16, 2004 with a block party birthday bash; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, that Isgro's Pasticceria is hereby honored and recognized on the event of its 100th Anniversary.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Isgro Pasticceria as a reflection of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
