WHEREAS, A group of concerned African American men established the Father's Day Rally Committee, Inc. in 1989 as a result of the observation of the myriad of social ills that plague the minority communities; and
WHEREAS, The Father's Day Rally Committee believes and exemplifies through their word and by deed, that men working together at the grassroots level can launch a meaningful attack on the negative attitudes, which contribute to the destruction of families and neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, The Father's Day Rally Committee has spearheaded many noteworthy and innovative programs that are reaching African American males between the ages of fifteen and twenty-one with positive and lasting results; and
WHEREAS, The Father's Day Rally Committee sponsors annually a Father's Day Picnic, which is a highly regarded event in the Philadelphia area and that the 15th Annual Father's Day Picnic will be held on Sunday, June 20, 2004; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend the Father's Day Rally Committee on its efforts and initiatives that have positively impacted the quality of life of African American communities and African American males in the City of Philadelphia and the entire Delaware Valley Region.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of the resolution is presented to Bilal Quayyum, President of the Father's Day Rally Committee as an expression of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
