WHEREAS, The W.B. Saul High School of Agricultural Sciences seeks to prepare students for the wide array of career opportunities available to them in the many fields of agriculture; and
WHEREAS, In June of 2004, fifty-two students from Saul High School participated in the Career Development Events at the Pennsylvania State Future Farmers of America Convention on the campus of Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, This state championship is an opportunity for the students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge over the academic year and for the faculty to demonstrate their dedication to educational achievement; and
WHEREAS, For the fifth time in the last seven years under the dynamic coaching of instructor Barbara Brown, the W. B. Saul Nursery/Landscape team placed first in the state; and
WHEREAS, This achievement earns them the right to represent Pennsylvania at the national competition to be held this October in Louisville, Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the Nursery/Landscape Team, Saul High School students participated in ten career development areas including: Floriculture, Ag Sales, Aquatics, Natural Resources and Environment, Meats Evaluation, Dairy Cattle Judging, Horse Evaluation, the Wildlife Contest and the Interview Contest; and
WHEREAS, Saul High School and its students and faculty continue to demonstrate the high quality of education and scholastic achievements that are occurring within the Philadelphia public school system; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate W.B. Saul High School’s Nursery/Landscape Team for their first place finish at the Pennsylvania State Future Farmers of America convention.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to W.B. Saul High School as a symbol of this legislative body’s congratulations and sincere appreciation for this achievement.
