Full Bill

WHEREAS, Henry Bermudez was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela in 1951 and studied art at the National School of Art “Julio Arraga” Maracaibo, Venezuela; and

WHEREAS, After finishing his studies at the National School of Art in Maracaibo, Mr. Bermudez moved to New York City where he studied for three years and honed his style and merged his South American roots with the burgeoning American art scene which was developing in New York; and

WHEREAS, Upon his return to Venezuela Mr. Bermudez would find that his time in New York City would result in a new found notoriety, as he would be representing his native country at the XLII Biennale di Venezia in Italy, which would be only the beginning of his critical success; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Bermudez’ s early critical success would not be short lived, and would result in dozens of commissions, solo shows and museum acquisitions throughout Latin America, Mexico, Europe and The United States over the next twenty plus years ; and

WHEREAS, Henry Bermudez’s education in art has been one which has not only brought him to Venezuela and the United States, but has also lead him throughout South America, with a two year stay at the National School of Art in Mexico City as well; and

WHEREAS, It was during his stay in Mexico where Henry’s style became more defined and lead him to further refine his awareness of the traditions of mythology and mysticism which permeate both the Venezuelan and Mexican culture; and

WHEREAS, By combining his inner spirituality with things that occur in nature as they were meant to be, Mr. Bermudez has crafted an artistic vision which unite the mystical with the history of our origins; and

WHEREAS, Since arriving in Philadelphia earlier this year Mr. Bermudez and his art has again evolved and brought together his inner visions with the new influence of the American Metropolis; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, We as a body honor Henry Bermudez, world renown Venezuelan painter, on the occasion of the Qbix Art and Design Gallery featuring Mr. Bermudez’s work.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Henry Bermudez as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
