Full Bill
WHEREAS, Obra S. Kernodle, III was born in Philadelphia and was a graduate of Central High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Temple University in 1969, where he was a member of the Reserve Officer Training Corps. Upon graduation, he served briefly in the Unites States Army; and
WHEREAS, Obra went on to earn a law degree from Columbia University in 1974, and worked for IBM and Sun Oil Company prior to becoming regional director for the United States Department of Energy. In 1980, he began a private law practice in Center City, and became one of Philadelphia’s most prominent and well-respected lawyers. Most recently, he was General Counsel to the Philadelphia Parking Authority, and a board member of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, and his client list includes: the School District of Philadelphia, Northeastern Hospital, North Philadelphia Health Systems, Philadelphia Gas Works, Blue Cross and others; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Obra sought to empower Philadelphia’s minority communities by bringing people together in a spirit of bipartisanship. Through his clear intelligence and quiet resolve, he sought to make this City and Commonwealth a better place for all who live here. He was a true gentlemen admired by community, business and political leaders and his presence will be sorely missed; and
WHEREAS, Obra’s most lasting legacy will be his three children, Whytni, Raigan, and Obra IV, and his devotion to his extended family, including his grandmother, Ruby, and brother, Arturo.
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor Obra S. Kernodle, III for a lifetime of achievement to the people of the City of Philadelphia. His unwavering commitment to the people of Philadelphia will serve as an inspiration to future generations.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Kernodle’s children as evidence of the sincere sentiment and high esteem of this legislative body.
