WHEREAS, The City Council of Philadelphia is pleased to welcome Dr. Stefano Mistretta, a distinguished career diplomat, as the new Consul General of Italy in Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Stefano Mistretta was born in Florence, Italy in 1949. He joined the Diplomatic Corps after graduating with a degree in Political Science from the University of Florence; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mistretta has been involved extensively in the arena of Economics and Economic Development, having served as the General Director of Economic Affairs from 1992-94. His expertise was valued as a keynote speaker in various roundtable conferences discussing the integration of newly emerging Eastern European communities into the general European Community; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mistretta was appointed the Consul General for Montenegro in Yugoslovia in 1996 after having served as General Director of Cultural Affairs for the Diplomatic Corps from 1994-1996. Immediately prior to his posting in Philadelphia, Dr. Mistretta was the Head of the Office of Development, where he was involved over the past four years taking a lead role in executing various International Development efforts undertaken by the Republic of Italy; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Mistretta's vast experience will be of great benefit as he heads a consulate jurisdiction that includes the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILDELPHIA, We hereby honor Dr. Stefano Mistretta for being named the new Consul General of Italy in Philadelphia.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Mistretta as evidence of the sincere appreciation and respect of this legislative body.
