WHEREAS, Elner Dawkins was a stellar member of the community who gave her life, time, energy and money towards improving the lives of children and adults in Fairhill Homes; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Dawkins served as a Committee person of the 37th Ward, a member of the Fairhill Homes Residents Council, and as an extended mother to countless neighborhood youth; and
WHEREAS, The After-School Weed and Seed, the Youth Talent Show, Youth Basketball, and Clean and Sweep are a few of the excellent programs Ms. Dawkins developed and sponsored or supported; and
WHEREAS, The lives of hundreds of children and adults are better today because Ms. Dawkins took time to care; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Elner Dawkins passed on November 27,
2004, leaving behind an indelible contribution to her entire community; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, THAT Cumberland Street between 10th and 11th street be also named Elner Dawkins Way.
