WHEREAS, Many residents consider the Philadelphia Row Home an architectural icon. With its easy access to culture and its sense of belonging to a tight-knit community, the Row Home stands as a tribute to the more than 150
unique neighborhoods, people and lifestyles that have come to define Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Dorette Rota Jackson and her sister Dawn Rhoades launched
Philadelphia Row Home Magazine
in May 2004 in order to preserve the history and traditions of their South Philadelphia neighborhood; and
WHEREAS,
Philadelphia Row Home Magazine
has become one of the fastest growing publications in the region. With an initial distribution of 5,000 copies and a publication of 54 pages, the magazine now enjoys a current circulation of over 20,000 issues with 172 pages; and
WHEREAS, It continues to attract a loyal following of readers, including subscribers nationwide, with such regular features as Neighborhood Noir, a black and white photographic tribute to the generations of families who have called South Philadelphia home; and
WHEREAS, Their commitment to promoting local businesses includes customized ad campaigns, business profiles, tips from professionals and visual tours of the area's spectacular row homes. The familiar tagline, Go Home Philly, encourages readers to stop and shop at their local spots; now therefore
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor Dorette Rota Jackson and Dawn Rhoades for their dedication to
Philadelphia Row Home Magazine;
and
FURTHER RESOLVED, That as evidence of the sentiments of this legislative body, Engrossed copies of this resolution be presented to Dorette Rota Jackson and Dawn Rhoades.
