Full Bill

WHEREAS, The National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC) will hold its annual conference from March 22-25, 2006; and

WHEREAS, This year's conference is titled “Economic Injustice: The Ongoing Hurricane”; and

WHEREAS, NCRC spearheaded and developed a national community reinvestment movement, with activists now working for economic justice in every state, in every major city, most smaller cities, and in much of rural America; and

WHEREAS, Community reinvestment activism is no longer the domain of a few urban activists but truly a nationwide movement; and

WHEREAS, NCRC's 600 plus member organizations and its coalition-membership structure make it the country's largest and most influential community reinvestment coalition; and

WHEREAS, NCRC is credited with saving the Community Reinvestment Act from extinction; and

WHEREAS, NCRC created the Financial Education Campaign and several other initiatives to help bring low-to-moderate income communities, individuals, small businesses and minorities into the financial mainstream. Now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council hereby honors the National Community Reinvestment Coalition on the occasion of its 2006 Annual Conference titled “Economic Injustice: The Ongoing Hurricane”; and be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the National Community Reinvestment Coalition in recognition of its strong advocacy and support for equal credit opportunities for all Americans.
