Full Bill

WHEREAS, Pierre Robert came to Philadelphia and WMMR from San Francisco in 1981, starting as a weekend jockey and record librarian; and

WHEREAS, Robert worked his way up through WMMR, taking on a wide variety of positions, including mornings, late night and midday shifts, until settling with his current time slot, weekdays 10 to 3, where he hosts several popular segments for listeners; and

WHEREAS, Robert has developed into an iconic, powerful personality on rock radio, and is praised for his warmth and humanity on-air and in person; and

WHEREAS, Pierre Robert is one of Philadelphia’s most recognizable figureheads, blending his radio presence with community activity; and

WHEREAS, Pierre has commingled with and interviewed countless Rock legends, including Jerry Garcia, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Bono, giving Philadelphia’s rock community an intimate look at many famous artists; and

WHEREAS, Robert has continually promoted tolerance and respect for others on his show and in his life, influencing countless listeners and being a positive and prominent role model for a diverse range of people; and

WHEREAS, For his midday show and other special news programs, Robert has been honored by the Philadelphia March of Dimes Achievement in Radio (AIR), winning 7 awards over 5 years; and

WHEREAS, Through his work, he has aided Philadelphia’s rock scene and cultural awareness, allowing the City to flourish and to continue to grow accordingly; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it honor renowned disc jockey Pierre Robert for his 25th Anniversary with WMMR 93.3 as an energetic, outrageous, and celebrated personality at one of America’s oldest and most influential rock stations.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Pierre Robert as evidence of the sincere sentiments and recognition of this legislative body.
