Authorizing City Council's Committee on the Disabled and the Handicapped to hold hearings to investigate and determine how many disabled and/or handicapped school age children are transported to and from school under the supervision of the Philadelphia School Reform Commission; and to determine the means, methods and criterion used by the Philadelphia School Reform Commission to ensure the safety of this group of children in transit; and to determine what are the special transportation needs of this group of children and what can be done to address these needs.

Full Bill

WHEREAS, The number of disabled/and or handicapped school age children in Philadelphia is unknown; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia School Reform Commission, under its supervision, transports disabled and/or handicapped children to school; and

WHEREAS, The safety of our school aged children is paramount to this Body; and

WHEREAS, The safety of our school aged children who are disabled/and or handicapped is equally important to this Body; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council hereby authorizes City Council's Committee on the Disabled and the Handicapped to hold hearings to investigate and determine how many disabled and/or handicapped school age children are transported to and from school under the supervision of the Philadelphia School Reform Commission; and to determine the means and methods used by the Philadelphia School Reform Commission to ensure the safety of this group of children; and to determine what are the special transportation needs for this group of children and what can be done to address these needs.
