Full Bill

WHEREAS, The Department of Licenses and Inspections is responsible for the administration and enforcement of The City's code requirements; and

WHEREAS, Changes and improvements have been made within The Department, but there are still areas where changes are needed to increase efficiency; and

WHEREAS, The process of obtaining a permit is often confusing and time-consuming; and

WHEREAS, The permit process discourages residential and commercial development by adding unnecessary delay and costs to projects; and

WHEREAS, Currently a developer may have to visit in-person up to 14 different agencies to obtain permits for a single project; and

WHEREAS, Consolidating various agencies in a single location and providing one-stop shopping will make the process user friendly and save both time and money; and

WHEREAS, Increasing the efficiency of the process could generate additional revenue for the city as well as cost savings; and

WHEREAS, Streamlining the process will generate and encourage economic development; and

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA THAT the Committee on Licenses and Inspections is hereby authorized to hold public hearings to discuss possible improvements to the Department of Licenses and Inspections which would result in increased service efficiencies.
