Full Bill

WHEREAS, In 1933, Bert Bell and Lud Wray paid $2,500 for a new NFL Philadelphia franchise succeeding the Frankford Yellow Jackets; and

WHEREAS, The first colors of the Philadelphia Eagles were blue and yellow, reflecting the colors of the City of Philadelphia flag, which was based on the colors of the flag of the Swedes who preceded William Penn in the settlement of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Eagles have played in 11 different stadiums; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Eagles have won 3 championships; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Eagles have had such football greats as Reggie White, Ron Jarworski, and Wilbert Montgomery, as well as Donovan McNabb, Brian Dawkins, and Brian Westbrook and Coach Andy Reid; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Eagles have inspired great loyalty from their legions of fans, brought much City spirit to Philadelphia, and honored Philadelphians with their successes; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Eagles are planning a large, vigorous, and grand celebration including having the Eagles wear 1933 throwback uniforms during the September 23, 2007, home game against the Detroit Lions; having players wear a 75th Anniversary logo on both the green and white jerseys throughout the season; launching an online museum dedicated to the franchises’ history; having fans vote on their favorite players for each position to constitute a 75th Anniversary Team; and airing a special on 6ABC featuring some of the greatest moments in team history and featuring members of the 75th Anniversary Team; and

WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia looks forward to another 75 years of the Philadelphia Eagles—all marked by athletic excellence and success; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Recognizing, Honoring, and Celebrating The Philadelphia Eagles on the Occasion of Their 75th Anniversary.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Philadelphia Eagles, further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
