WHEREAS, WHYY-TV was founded in 1957; and

WHEREAS, WHYY-TV is a non-profit corporation chartered by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and licensed by the Federal Communications Commission to operate Channel 12, the public broadcasting stations serving southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware and South Jersey; and

WHEREAS, WHYY's mission is to connect the community to the world's richest ideas through high-quality programs, trusted services, and enlightening community events that build common bonds and make our region a better place; and

WHEREAS, WHYY has received numerous awards over the last 50 years for its excellent on-air programs and educational outreach; and

WHEREAS, WHYY utilizes its reach to more than 1.2 million households to foster a lifelong love of learning for all residents of the Greater Philadelphia region; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it Recognizes, Honors, And Celebrates the 50th Anniversary Of WHYY-TV And That It Thanks WHYY-TV For Its Many Contributions To The City Of Philadelphia Through Cultural And Educational Initiatives.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to WHYY-TV, further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
