Full Bill

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Multicultural Affairs Congress, originally known as the Minority Advisory Council, was created in 1987 by the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau; and

WHEREAS, It is the mission of the Multicultural Affairs Congress to increase Philadelphia's share of the multicultural meetings and tourism markets, maximizing opportunities for the region by promoting Philadelphia as an ethnically diverse visitor destination, encouraging multicultural business and social responsibility that contributes to and benefits from the varying multicultural communities that enhance our region's hospitality and tourism industry; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. Department of Commerce, Travel and Tourism Administration, designated Philadelphia the number one city for African American tourism due to the efforts of the PMAC; and

WHEREAS, The PMAC has worked tirelessly to promote Chinatown, one of Philadelphia's most historic neighborhoods, and helped to secure Philadelphia’s place amongst the top 10 destinations for Latino travelers; and

WHEREAS, The PMAC works to increase the diversity of the local hospitality industry workforce by supporting programs such as Opportunities Industrialization Center, the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality and Philadelphia high school students interested in culinary and tourism careers; and

WHEREAS, The PMAC contributes to the varying multicultural communities that enhance our region's hospitality and tourism industry; and

WHEREAS, It is the interest of this legislative body to recognize and honor those organizations that work to promote Philadelphia’s rich cultural heritage and ethnic diversity; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That It Recognizes, Honors, And Commends The Philadelphia Multicultural Affairs Congress On The Occasion Of Its 20th Anniversary.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Multicultural Affairs Congress, further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
