Full Bill

WHEREAS, In June of 1943, James E. Tiano was inducted into the Army in the midst of World War II, assigned to England in March of 1944, was sent to France in October of 1944, and was captured by the enemy in November of 1944; and

WHEREAS, As a Prisoner of War, James E. Tiano suffered through the cold of Winter without proper clothing and nourishment, and under extremely adverse conditions, all the while worrying about his family back home: his wife and mother, and two young sons; and

WHEREAS, James E. Tiano was liberated in May of 1945, having survived difficult and life-threatening circumstances, and witnessed the deaths of many of his fellow soldiers and felt great sorrow at their loss and compassion for their families; and

WHEREAS, James E. Tiano returned to his loving family in peacetime, but never forgot the sorrow and compassion experienced in wartime; and

WHEREAS, James E. Tiano has transferred those feelings of sorrow and compassion to the Philadelphia police and firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty—and their families; and

WHEREAS, James E. Tiano has, therefore, out of an abundance of generosity and kindness donated all the flowers—floral arrangements, corsages, and individual roses—for the plaque-laying ceremonies honoring our fallen heroes here in Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia appreciates the sacrifice in wartime and generosity in peacetime of a great Philadelphian: James E. Tiano; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That It Recognizes, Honors, And Celebrates James E. Tiano For Service To His Country In Wartime And Service To His City In Peacetime.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to James E. Tiano, further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
