Full Bill

WHEREAS, Children with disabilities have a need for programs that would keep their attention span at a high level; and

WHEREAS, There are many children with disabilities who are not able to participate in activities with other children after classes end for the day; and

WHEREAS, There is a need for after school classes and programs for children with disabilities to allow them to increase their academic skills and to engage in pursuits that are more related to activities of a non-academic nature; and

WHEREAS, The children who attend after school programs have a greater opportunity to expand academically, socially and enjoy the same benefits as abled-body students; and

WHEREAS, Children with disabilities need opportunities academically and socially that are normally given to children without disabilities; and

WHEREAS, There is a need for children with disabilities to have transportation both to these activities and back from the activities to their homes; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the Council calls upon the School District of Philadelphia to provide after school programs for children with disabilities, and to provide transportation to and from such activities.
