Full Bill
WHEREAS, The City Council of Philadelphia is pleased to honor and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the National Federation of Advanced Information Services; and
WHEREAS, The National Federation of Advanced Information Services was founded in 1958 to foster and improve the creation, distribution, access and retrieval of the world’s literature in science, technology and engineering as well as in the humanities, social sciences and business- through education, research and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, The National Federation of Advanced Information Services is a non-profit, volunteer driven Philadelphia-based information industry organization which serves the needs of all of those who create, aggregate or otherwise facilitate access to information, such as publishers, libraries, information technology providers and information scientists; and
WHEREAS, Its member organizations are the worlds leading providers of informational services and technology who further embraced the NFAIS goals of improving the interchange of scholarly communication and providing the best possible information services to researchers, teachers, students and scholars worldwide; and
WHEREAS, The National Federation of Advanced Information Services for the past fifty years have provided educational and advocacy forums to address its members interests and concerns regarding the unique challenges in the information industry; now therefore
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Declares and recognizes February 24, 2008 as “NFAIS Day” in the City of Philadelphia to recognize the valuable education and information services that the National Federation of Advanced Information Services and its member organizations provide and congratulate you on your 50th Anniversary as well as your 50th Annual Conference which is being held here in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the representatives of the National Federation of Advanced Information Services as evidence of the sincere sentiment of this legislative body.
