Full Bill

WHEREAS, Mitchell Allen was born on May 11, 1929, and he has committed an extraordinary amount of time, resources, energy and dedication to raising, mentoring and teaching our youth the qualities of being a responsible and creative member of society; and

WHEREAS, Mitchell Allen was a boxer and champion, in his own right, and founder of the Mitchell Allen Boxing Gym, but he is so much more to so many people; and

WHEREAS, Mitchell Allen’s selfless spirit and actions for almost 57 years is a great example of what it means to give back to the community; and

WHEREAS, Mitchell Allen is a father to his own children, he is and has been in the true sense of the words, a surrogate father to untold numbers of young people in the West Philadelphia community where he lived; and

WHEREAS, Mitchell Allen, for decades, made the sacrifices necessary to take young people out to ballgames, camping trips, and he also schooled them in the lessons of life, teaching discipline, responsibility and what it means to care and share for your fellow man; and

WHEREAS, Mitchell Allen exudes caring, sharing, commitment, and dedication as a way of life; and

WHEREAS, Mitchell Allen is a giant among men and his prominence in Philadelphia as a role model, a quiet trail blazer in his community has enriched all Philadelphians; and

WHEREAS, Mitchell Allen is loved, revered, and respected by all who know him; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council honors Mitchell Allen for his for his lifetime of exceptional, long-standing commitment and his tireless dedication to improve the quality of life for the youth throughout Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of the resolution be presented to Mitchell Allen as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this Legislative Body.
