Full Bill

WHEREAS,

The Oral Health Impact Project (OHIP) is a provider of comprehensive quality oral health care to the student population of one hundred forty of the public schools in the City of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS

, OHIP is the largest provider of this type of services to students in the Philadelphia school system including middle and high school students; and

WHEREAS

, OHIP is committed to providing high quality dental services and oral health education to all children enrolled in this program; and

WHEREAS

, The Council recognizes that (41)% of third graders suffer from some form of tooth decay and (14)% of them go to school with some level of oral pain; and

WHEREAS

, Dr. Lawrence Caplin, CEO of OHIP has built this program to be self funded and not needing any funds from the City of Philadelphia or the School District of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS

, The Council is honored to recognize Dr. Caplin and OHIP for their commitment to the children of the School District of Philadelphia and to the City of Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS

, This Council is proud to declare the week of February 21, 2008 as Oral Health Week; now therefore be it,

RESOLVED,

That the Philadelphia City Council hereby commends Dr. Lawrence Caplin and the Oral Health Impact Project for their efforts to provide quality oral healthcare services to the City's under-privileged Youth and Recognizing the Week of February 21, 2008 as Oral Health Week; and

FURTHER RESOLVED,

That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Chaplin and the Oral Health Impact Project as a profound expression of this Council's appreciation.
