Full Bill

WHEREAS, Georgie Woods was an outstanding community and civil rights leader; and

WHEREAS, His commitment and contribution to the City of Philadelphia is indelibly etched in the hearts and minds of residents throughout this great city; and

WHEREAS, Georgie Woods came to the City of Philadelphia from New York in 1953 to work as a disc jockey, bringing in to the city emerging talents of the era; and

WHEREAS, His encouragement to those who were marginalized is laudable; and

WHEREAS, The residents of the community wish to honor the Memory of Georgie Woods with a fitting tribute; now, therefore

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA HEREBY ORDAINS:

SECTION 1. The “Robin Hood Dell East” located at Ridge Avenue and Huntingdon Drive is hereby named and designated as the “Georgie Woods Entertainment Center.”
