Honoring reporter Dick Standish on his retirement from CBS 3.

WHEREAS, Veteran Reporter Dick Standish joined CBS 3 in 1979 after nearly 12 years as a reporter for sister station KYW Newsradio 1060, his first news story was reporting on the Philadelphia Mayor's race; and

WHEREAS, Considered by many of his colleagues to be one of the area's leading political reporters, Standish has covered eight presidential nominating conventions, press conferences at the White House and numerous national newsmakers - interviewing President George Bush, Senator Ted Kennedy and former First Lady Roslyn Carter among others; and

WHEREAS, His reporting on Eyewitness News has won numerous honors, including one from the Philadelphia chapter of American Women in Radio and Television for his series on women in the job market; from the Philadelphia Press Association for his coverage of a street disturbance following a police shooting, as well as an award for the Best Radio News Story for his coverage of the Garden State Race Track fire and the Gulf Refinery fire, and a Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Philadelphia Chapter for his exclusive report on Mayor Bill Green not seeking re-election; and

WHEREAS, Standish is a Rutgers University graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in History. He has also taught broadcast journalism at Rutgers, and began his career there in 1960 as a reporter, news director and station manager for WRSU Radio, the campus station; and

WHEREAS, Standish currently resides with his family in Montgomery County where he enjoys baseball, tennis, drawing and reading and rooting for his favorite sports team, the Philadelphia Phillies; now therefore

The City Council of Philadelphia raises a ceremonial toast to Dick Standish for his professionalism and work ethic as he covered Philadelphia politics with integrity and honor.
