Full Bill

WHEREAS

, Police Officer Isabel Nazario was appointed to the Philadelphia Police Department on January 8, 1990; and

WHEREAS

, On March 14, 1994, Officer Nazario was assigned to the Narcotic Strike Force, where she served in the South Division; and

WHEREAS

, On September 5, 2008, Officer Nazario was on patrol when she and her partner learned of a vehicle pursuit in progress. The vehicle being pursued was a large sports utility vehicle which was being operated by an intoxicated male. The vehicle broadsided their cruiser near the passenger door, and Officer Nazario was killed instantly. Her partner was also critically injured in the collision; and

WHEREAS

, The driver was captured after a foot chase by other responding officers and is currently awaiting trial; and

WHEREAS

, Officer Nazario died at the age of 40 having served with the Philadelphia Police Department for 18 years; and

WHEREAS

, Officer Nazario resided at 3318 Welsh Road; and

WHEREAS

, Officer Nazario is survived by her mother, Patricia Santiago, her sister, Police Officer Maritza Mohamad, and her daughter, Jasmine; and

WHEREAS

, In recognition of the dedicated service by Police Officer Isabel Nazario and to further memorialize the sacrifice she made by serving and protecting the citizens of Philadelphia; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA

, That we honor the life and service of this dedicated public servant by also naming the 3300 block of Welsh Road and the streets at the intersection of 39th and Wallace Streets in honor of Police Officer Isabel Nazario, Badge No. 6341.
