Recognizing, Honoring, And Celebrating Central High School's Girls Basketball Team (The Lancers) and Coach Frank Greco For Their Success in Capturing the 2009 Public League Girls Basketball Championship.

WHEREAS

, The Lancers have dominated Public League girls' basketball for most of this decade, bagging championships in near-routine fashion; and

WHEREAS

, Last year was different, with the Lancers reaching the final but losing to Engineering and Science; and

WHEREAS

, While the blowout defeat against the Engineers brought a crushing end to the program's six-year reign, it gave Janaa Pickard, Renee Deas and company extra incentive during practices; and

WHEREAS

, "It's a blessing," said Deas, a wing guard. "After what happened a year ago, we came back hungry. We really wanted this;" and

WHEREAS

, The Lancers won their seventh league title in 11 seasons under Greco; and

WHEREAS

, The Lancer's Coach Frank Greco has been the girls basketball coach for 11 years and is also Central's Athletic Director; and

WHEREAS

, As Coach Greco puts it, they're always students and classy young women.

WHEREAS

, Coach Greco provides an environment where the team can assume responsibility and consequences for their own actions; and

WHEREAS

, The Lancers promotes a safe, calm and disciplined environment in which students can discover and develop their talents; and

WHEREAS

, Central High School maintains a high expectation for each student on and off the basketball court; now therefore

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA

, That City Council Hereby Recognize, Honor, And Celebrates Central High School's Girls Basketball Team (The Lancers) and Coach Frank Greco For Their Success in Capturing the 2009 Public League Girls Basketball Championship.

That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Frank Greco as further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body.
