WHEREAS, Jill Scott was the 2001 recipient of the Aretha Franklin Award, as the Entertainer of the Year award at the Lady Soul Awards, and won a Grammy in 2005 for Best Urban/Alternative R&B performance for

WHEREAS, Jill Scott founded the Blues Babe Foundation in 2002, named after her grandmother, an organization that provides scholarships to minority college-bound students in the Philadelphia area; and
WHEREAS, In 2006, the Blues Babe Foundation donated over $100,000 for the renovation of the Cecil B. Moore Recreation Center, which was one of several recreation centers scheduled for closure at the time due to poor conditions and limited use. The center now serves as a model for community renewal due to the Jill Scott's commitment to the neighborhood where she grew up; now therefore
