Full Bill

WHEREAS,

The

Philadelphia Portuguese Heritage Commission is the non-profit organization responsible for funding and producing the events for the celebration of Portuguese Heritage for the commemoration of Portuguese Day (“Dia de Portugal”) celebrated throughout the world on June 10th of every year; and

WHEREAS,

Portuguese immigrants arrived in the Philadelphia region before the American Revolution; and Portuguese immigrants have made Philadelphia their home since pre-American Revolution times; and

WHEREAS,

The

Philadelphia Portuguese Heritage Commission actively sponsors the Portuguese Heritage Festival on June 21, 2009, as part of the PECO Multicutural Series on the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing; and

WHEREAS,

By taking pride in preserving its rich heritage, Portuguese-Americans are supporting the rich diversity of cultures that make up the City of Philadelphia while promoting community fellowship and pride in the City of Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED THAT,

The Philadelphia City Council hereby honors, congratulates and recognizes the Philadelphia Portuguese Heritage Commission on its dedication and commitment to maintaining pride in the Portuguese culture and heritage. We applaud your work for the community and thank you for creating this important cultural event for the people of the City of Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED,

That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Philadelphia Portuguese Heritage Commission as a sincere expression of City Council's appreciation and gratitude.
